Thousands Attend Funeral for 21-Year-Old Paramedic Razan al-Najjar, Slain in Gaza

Thousands gathered in Gaza on Saturday, June 2 for the funeral of a 21-year-old a Palestinian paramedic, who was shot dead on Friday by an Israeli sniper.

Razan al-Najjar was shot in the neck as she ran towards an East Gaza border fence to aid the wounded, Haaretz reported.

Her funeral on Saturday began in her home town of Khuza’a. It was scheduled to end in a cemetery in Khan Younis, near the East Gaza border area where she was killed. Her death also triggered further protests in the region.

Palestinian Health Minister Dr. Jawad Awaad said on Friday that Najjar was shot while clearly wearing a medical staff uniform, according to the Haaretz report.

Later on Saturday, at least two rockets were launched from Gaza toward Israel, reportedly in protest of Najjar’s death. Subsequently, Israeli aircraft attacked Khan Younis and other sites in Gaza. Credit: Ultra Palestine via Storyful
