Thousands flocked to Barrow yesterday to celebrate the life of Hairy Bikers star, Dave Myers.

Whilst traffic and travel advice was given out yesterday, reams of people were expected to arrive in Barrow town centre in honour of the late TV star. As the sun shone in Cumbria, crowds certainly did not disappoint as thousands of bikers and well-wishers turned up to the town in "amazing scenes".

Westmorland and Furness Council showed the crowds of people that had arrived in Barrow at around 5pm yesterday afternoon (Sunday, June 8). It had been dubbed 'Dave Day' as bikers from London to Dave's hometown of Barrow to celebrate his life.

The TV presenter passed away at the age of 66 back in February, almost two years after being diagnosed with cancer in May 2022. Dave is best known for presenting TV shows as part of a motorcycling-duo with friend and co-presenter Si King.

Earlier this month, Dave's wife Liliana Orzac took part in her first interview since her husband's death, telling Lorraine: “Everybody who loses somebody in their lives misses them, but there’s a different layer to it because if I turn on the TV, he might be on. Cookbooks in the house everywhere, all of them stained with food.”

Liliana helped organised Dave Day which saw bikers travel from London to Barrow, where a concert and service of remembrance took place. The couple first met whilst Dave was filmed the first series of Hairy Bikers in Romania, with the bikers staying in a hotel Liliana was running.

Reflecting on the scenes yesterday, Barrow BID posted on social media: "Wow, what a day......Dave Day!

"From the point of us being approached to put on this event by representatives of Dave's family, none of us could have imagined what an extraordinary day it would have been!

"A huge thank you to the whole town who supported us on the day, as well as Westmorland and Furness Council who worked in partnership with us on this event, as well as Barrow Town Council, BAE Systems , Marshals North West and all the other organisations that made this possible.

"A special mention also to the countless numbers of volunteers that gave their time to support us, we absolutely couldn't have done all this without you!"
