Thousands Forced to Evacuate as Flooding Grips New South Wales

Major flooding in parts of New South Wales (NSW) forced thousands of people to evacuate their homes on July 6, according to the State Emergency Service (SES).

NSW SES said 108 evacuation orders affecting 57,000 people were in place on Wednesday, with evacuation warnings affecting a further 27,000 people. The service said the situation in greater Sydney was easing as the weather system moved north.

The Bureau of Meteorology said heavy rainfall and flash flooding hit the mid-north coast of NSW on Wednesday. Multiple flood warnings remained in place for areas near the Hawkesbury-Nepean river.
