Thousands Join Rally Backing Jailed Hong Kong Police Officers

Thousands of people joined a rally on Wednesday, February 22, in Hong Kong’s Mong Kok area to show their support for seven police officers jailed for beating an activist.

Event organizers said more than 30,000 off-duty and retired Hong Kong police officers attended the rally held at the Police Sports and Recreation Club, RTHK reported. The protest was in response to the conviction of seven police officers for beating activist Ken Tsang during 2014’s Occupy protests. Pro-establishment politicians in Hong Kong have claimed that the sentence of up to two years in prison for the officers was too harsh.
