Donations have poured in for a teenager who was shot five times while using his own body to protect other students from being killed during the Florida school shooting.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Anthony Borges is recovering in hospital after he was severely injured while heroically saving lives.

The 15-year-old was shot in both legs and saw his left upper thigh bone shattered and one bullet go through his back.

The teenager was praised for his heroics by fellow students, who say he protected 20 lives by holding a classroom door shut to prevent suspected shooter Nikolas Cruz from getting inside.

A GoFundMe page set up to raise funds for Anthony’s family has currently pulled in over £67,000 in donations.

Page creator Sara Caputo wrote: “During this unspeakable tragedy, Anthony was able to save about 20 other students as he attempted to close and lock the door to a classroom.

“He was shot multiple times (both legs were shot, left upper thigh bone shattered and one bullet went through his back).

“He has a long road of recovery ahead of him but he is alive and stable.”

Fellow student Carlos Rodriguez told Good Morning America that Anthony remained calm as the gravity of what was unfolding set in.

He said: “None of us knew what to do, so he took the initiative to just save his other classmates.”

Anthony’s father, Royer Borges, described his son as a “hero”, adding: “I only ask that people pray for him.”

Cruz, 19, was arrested shortly after the shooting and faces 17 murder charges.
