Thousands Sign Petition Demanding Prosecution Of Woman Who Taped Dogs Mouth Shut

A petition that has demanded a woman be prosecuted for animal abuse after she allegedly taped a dog’s mouth shut has been signed over 33,000 times.

A photo of the dog with its mouth muzzled tightly shut by duct tape was posted on the Facebook page of South Daytona resident Katie Brown.

A caption alongside the picture read: “This is what happens when you don’t shut up!!!”

The post soon went viral as thousands reacted in shock to the “abuse” of the dog, while the South Daytona Police Department received hundreds of calls from around the world demanding they investigate.

After discovering Brown was out of state with the dog, they wrote on their Facebook page: ”Police will be contacting this person once she returns to our city.

”Rest assured that a full investigation will be done and appropriate action will be taken.”

However, social media users took it upon themselves to find the woman and tips soon flooded in as to her whereabouts.

A Facebook page and petition on change.org was also quickly set up that called on authorities to prosecute Brown.

The page states: “This is flagrant animal abuse. We are asking that the police department(s) of Suffield and/or Avon, Connecticut and/or South Daytona, Florida properly prosecute Katie Brown, despite where she lives.

“Please send a message to animal abusers all over that duct taping your animal’s mouth is NOT a proper or ethical action to take in obedience training!”

A message was posted on Brown’s Facebook page that responded to the criticisms thrown at her in light of the photo.

It read: “I can’t lie. I did it for sixty seconds. It was time out and no more barking.”

She later added: "Don’t panic everyone it was only for a minute but [the dog] hasn’t barked since… POINT MADE!!!”

Police have reportedly visited her previous address in South Daytona and spoke to her son, who say the dogs were in “good health and cared for”.
