Thousands Still Without Power in Chicago Days After Derecho Storm

Trees were uprooted, buildings were damaged, and homes were left without power as a destructive derecho storm that included at least one tornado hit Chicago, Illinois, on Monday, August 10.

Footage captured by Slobodan Dzikoski outside his home shows a downed tree that fell on at least three cars during the storm.

Dzikowski can be heard saying in the video, “I was checking why we don’t have internet. We’re lucky to have electricity, actually.”

The National Weather Service warned residents to take cover as storms and winds of more than 70 mph struck the area on Monday.

According to Chicago electric utility ComEd, over 635,0000 households were left without electricity as a result of the storm, which it said featured over 4,000 lightning strikes.
