Hurricane Laura moved through the Gulf states on August 27, causing severe damage to southwestern Louisiana, according to reports.
The storm passed over Shreveport on Thursday morning as a Category 1 hurricane before weakening to a tropical storm, the NOAA said. Trees were downed across the area and more than 45,000 customers were without power, according to local reports.
These videos, shared by Onyema Nwokolo, show intense wind and rain ripping through Shreveport on Thursday morning, toppling a large tree. “I made this video pleading with #HurricaneLaura2020 to be nice,” Nwokolo tweeted, “…and then this happened about five minutes later.”
Gov John Bel Edwards said at a press conference that at least four people had died in the storms, including a 14-year-old girl.
