Thousands Without Power After Windstorm Hits Sacramento

Fierce winds downed trees and knocked out power in Sacramento, California, as winter storms battered the state on January 26.

“Lots of loud crashes. Supposed to get worse in early am hours. Buckle up!” he wrote on Twitter shortly before midnight.

According to local news reports, the storm hit the city after 11 pm on Tuesday, leaving 76,000 residents without power as lines were downed by falling trees and high winds.

By January 27, the city’s utility company said power cuts were affecting a total of 106,000 customers.

The weather service recorded peak winds of up to 63 mph in Sacramento during the storm.
