Police pulled over more than 30 vehicles travelling through the city during an operation that saw three people arrested. The latest 'check site' was set up in Stoke-on-Trent as part of a crackdown aimed at putting the brakes on illegal motorists.

During the initiative, which saw officers team up with Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the DVSA, a Range Rover was also seized. Such operations are done on a relatively regular basis in the Potteries with cops keen to not just get unroadworthy vehicles off the network, but identify criminality along with stolen vehicles.

The initiatives will usually see a check site set up, traditionally in spots around Longton, Fenton and the service area of Festival Park where cars, vans and trucks are brought in and checked over. While officials will wait at the site, cops will patrol the area looking for bad driving and poor-looking vehicles.

The latest operation saw 31 vehicles brought into the site. One vehicle was found to be stolen and on false plates while another was seized for having no tax.

Meanwhile prohibition notices were dished out for bald tyres, lights, and carrying an insecure load. In addition officials also identified a vehicle 'carrying food not fit for human consumption' with one driver found not to have a waste carriers licence.

Other matters included further insecure loads and not wearing a seatbelt. The three arrests came with one on suspicion of drug driving and two others wanted for offences.

Photographs from the check site show vehicles such as a Ford Ranger pick-up and a Land Rover Range Rover being hauled off.
