Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri star Sam Rockwell has given an insight into the potential fate of his character and that of Frances McDormand's Mildred in Martin McDonagh's award-winning film.
Rockwell picked up the Best Supporting Actor prize at the 2018 EE BAFTA Film Awards for his role as racist and bigoted cop Dixon, and backstage at the event he reflected on the challenges of playing such a "transformative" character.
"[I mean] he does get set on fire," Rockwell said in response to how his character could be seen as sympathetic towards the end despite being so despicable.
"It was challenging... I think he has a lot to do at the end of the movie. And Mildred, they probably need a lot of therapy. That last scene, I don't think they're quite done."
The star admitted he had thought about what could have happened to the pair after they set off on the road to avenge Mildred's daughter's death.
"I think they probably went to the pub for some liquid courage and ended up making out. And just botched the whole killing thing," he said.
Meanwhile, referring to his Time's Up pin, he added: "Well, I think it's important to represent this moment and try to listen if people are trying to be heard.
"I want to support that. I have a lot of amazing women in my life."
Three Billboards won a clutch of towards at this year's BAFTAs.
Joanna Lumley hosted the event held at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
