Three-car Edinburgh A720 City Bypass pile-up as emergency services race to scene

Edinburgh drivers have been warned after a three-car collision has been reported on the city bypass.

The A720 westbound at Millerhill is currently closed, due to a road traffic collision. Traffic is building in the area with massive queues tailing back between Sherrifhall, Millerhill and Old Craighall.

The incident occurred shortly before 2.30pm on November 14 on the city bypass between Millerhill and the Sherriffhall roundabout.

Motorists are being urged to approach with caution and follow the signed diversion. One eyewitness has said traffic is backed up to the A1.

Emergency services are at the scene and it is understood traffic is being held.

At 2.40pm, Traffic Scotland said: "Millerhill/Sheriffhall (WB). Road RESTRICTED due to a three vehicle collision. Road users are advised to approach with caution."

At 3.10pm, they updated drivers: "A720 (W) Millerhill - Sheriffhall - The road is closed to all westbound traffic due to a road traffic incident. Road users are advised to follow the signed diversion and expect longer than normal journey times."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.30pm on Thursday, 14 November, 2024, we were made aware of a three-vehicle crash on the A720 near the Millerhill area.

“Emergency services are in attendance.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 2.33pm on November 14 to attend a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the Edinburgh Bypass. Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene and two patients were transported to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.”
