Police have launched a murder investigation after three children died in a “suspicious” fire at a family home in Greater Manchester.

A three-year-old girl is fighting for her life, and the 35-year-old mother of the children is in a serious condition, in hospital after the suspected arson attack on the house.

A 14-year-old girl was declared dead at the scene, while an 8-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl died in hospital.

The incident took place at a house in Walkden, near Bolton, Greater Manchester, where firefighters fought the flames after being called to the property at 5am.

Police were also called to the house to an incident at around 2am, the Manchester Evening News reported.

It is understood that officers were responding to reports of a wheelie bin being set on fire.

According to local reports, one line of investigation is the possibility that flammable liquid was poured through the home’s letterbox.

Six people in total were taken to hospital after a blaze ripped through a terrace in Salford, while two teenagers, whose conditions are not known, also managed to escape the blaze.
