Three fire engines called to Ponteland industrial estate after blaze broke out in old BT building

Emergency services were called to a fire on a Northumberland industrial estate on Sunday afternoon.

The fire had broken out on the roof of the Old BT Exchange on the Merton Industrial Estate in Ponteland.

Three fire engines from Northumberland Fire and Rescue were assisted by Northumbria Police in extinguishing the fire and making the area safe.

A spokesperson for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 12:16pm on Sunday reporting a fire in the old BT exchange in Ponteland.

"This was a fire on a flat roof and was extinguished using one hose reel and a short extension ladder. Three fire engines and one officer were in attendance alongside Northumbria Police."
