Three Gateshead pubs ranked as 'cosiest' in the UK as area tops national list
We're now well into the time of year when there's really nothing better than sitting down with a drink or a bite to eat in front of a warm fire. And, according to new research, the best place to do just that is Gateshead, with three pubs in the area ranked among the 'cosiest' in the UK.
As soon as the clocks went back last month, the nights got drew in a lot quicker, with many people going to work and coming home in the dark, as we hurtle towards Christmas. This week has seen a noticeable drop in temperatures and, with snow also forecast, the thought of plonking yourself in a chair with a pint in the pub to get away from it all for a few hours sounds like winter bliss.
Well, based on research from GG.co.uk, Gateshead comes out on top, when it comes to the place with the cosiest pubs in the UK. To come to that conclusion, the online bookmaker analysed Google ratings and pub information available through UseYourLocal.com across every town and city with populations of at least 100,000. Each town or city then received an overall cosiness score based on how many of these pubs with real fire also featured large TV screens, showed horse racing, football, cricket or rugby or had a Sky Sport or TNT Sports connection.

And it's Gateshead that comes out on top with a nationwide cosiness score of 98.99%, with three particular venues in the borough helping to boost that score. The first of those is the Soho Tavern in Kibblesworth. Just a short drive away from the busy A1 and Team Valley, Soho Tavern, as well as being a place to enjoy a drink or two, has received rave reviews for its top notch Indian cuisine.
Joining it in the top three is The Old Fox in Felling. which has a 5 star rating on Trip Advisor and gets plenty of praise for being a great dog friendly pub with a fantastic range of real ale, craft beers and spirits,' as well as also being a great place to check out live music.
The other pub that's been helping to boost Gateshead's 'cosiness' ranking is The Black Bull, right near the town centre, which is also a great place to catch a band, as well as being known for going all out with their Christmas decorations.
