Three people have been jailed in connection with trouble which broke out in Stoke-on-Trent and Tamworth after the deaths of three girls in Southport. Ian Green, 55, was jailed for two years after he urged rioters to target the doors of the Holiday Inn Express in Tamworth on Sunday, August 4.

Green, of Kettlebrook, Tamworth, also repeatedly obstructed police who were on the frontline as a huge group of people protested about asylum seekers held inside. Green admitted violent disorder and was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Tuesday, November 12.

Cameron Bell, 23, of Tamworth, admitted the same offence and was sentenced to nine-months behind bars at the same court yesterday, Tuesday, November 12. Police said Bell had repeatedly made racist remarks and told members of the group they should visit other hotels in the area as part of the disorder.

Another offender, Danny Hollick, had thrown a large rock at a police officer during the same incident. The 41-year-old, of Tamworth, previously admitted violent disorder and was sentenced to two-years-and-two-months in prison at Stafford Crown Court on Monday, November 11.

Simon Beech, 36, repeatedly ignored police in Stoke-on-Trent on August 3 when he was asked to move back during the unrest. He threw a missile at police and repeatedly challenged public order officers. Beech, of Chell Heath, Stoke-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday. He will be sentenced on November 25.

Detectives were continuing to trawl through evidence to take action against those responsible for the violent disorder.
