Three key dates revealed for Nuneaton and Bedworth's future house building plan

Key dates have been revealed for the revised future housing plan for Nuneaton and Bedworth. Independent inspectors have been appointed by the Secretary of State to look into the revised Borough Plan.

The crucial plan maps out all future housing, employment and leisure land in the borough. The revised plan removed proposals for 4,000 'overspill' homes from Coventry as well as potential housing land in Woodlands in Bedworth and Bulkington.

Now that the independent Examination of the Plan is underway, the inspectors will hold a number of public hearing sessions. The hearings will be divided into three blocks and will be held from the summer into the autumn.

Once the independent examination is complete, a final decision will then be taken if the plan is 'sound' and if it can become official policy.

Block one

The first sessions will be held during the week beginning July 8. The hearing sessions will commence on Tuesday, July 9 at 10am until Friday, July 12, 2024 (these subsequent days will start at 9.30am)

Block two

The second block of the hearing sessions will be held the week beginning September 23, 2024. The hearing sessions will start on Tuesday, September 24 at 10am until Thursday, September 26 with Friday, September 27, 2024 held as reserve. (Other than the Tuesday, these days will start at 9.30am).

Block three

Block three of the hearing sessions will be held the week beginning October 7. The hearing sessions will commence on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 10am until Wednesday, October 9, with Thursday, October 10 held as reserve. (Other than the Tuesday, these days will start at 9.30am).

All of the hearing sessions will be held at the Town Hall. Councillor Rob Roze, cabinet member for planning and enforcement, said: "The forthcoming Examination in Public for the Borough Plan Review is a significant step forward in the plan-making process.

"It provides an opportunity for the council as well as those who submitted representations at the Regulation 19 Publication Stage to discuss those matters to be examined during the specified hearing sessions as set out by the Inspectors. There is an opportunity for those who have not formally submitted representations to come and watch the hearings take place."

The matters, issues and questions for the hearing sessions taking place in July have been published on the examination website along with a guidance note and outline programme.

Hearing statements relating to the sessions commencing on July 9 need to be submitted to the Helen Wilson, programme officer by Monday, June 17. All queries regarding the examination should be emailed to helen@programmeofficers.co.uk
