Three people died and two were injured after a heavy truckload of glass fell onto a car.

The tragedy happened in Shanghai, eastern China when the architectural glass panes, being carried on a lorry toppled onto the Sedan. 

According to initial investigations by police, the accident happened when the lorry - carrying a seven tonne load - saw a red light too late and suddenly braked, causing the glass to fall off the back of the vehicle.

The spokesman said: ‘The glass was standing up on its side leaning against a central carrier on the lorry and this toppled over.’

While rescuers managed to remove two passengers in the backseat, a young woman and an older woman, three others in the car showed no signs of life when taken to hospital, and they were later pronounced dead by doctors, having suffering severe injuries.
 
The lorry driver has now been arrested and could face three counts of involuntary manslaughter.
