Chadwell Heath flat fire sees child taken to hospital as three treated for smoke inhalation

A child has been taken to hospital and three people have been treated for smoke inhalation. The London Fire Brigade reported that the roof and majority of two first-floor flats above a shop in Chadwell Heath were ablaze at around 4am this morning (Sunday, December 1).

In an official statement, the brigade confirmed that 12 fire engines and approximately 80 firefighters were battling the fire on High Road. Three people who had evacuated the building prior to the arrival of the firefighters were attended to at the scene by crews from the London Ambulance Service.

Firefighters from Ilford, Dagenham, Romford, Hainault and nearby fire stations were present at the fire, which was reported just after 4am on Sunday.

In its full statement, a spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: "Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters tackled a fire at a flat above a shop on High Road in Chadwell Heath.

"The whole of the roof and most of two flats on the first floor were alight. Three people left the building before the Brigade arrived and were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews. A child was taken to hospital.

"The Brigade's Control Officers took the first call at 0406 and mobilised crews from Ilford, Dagenham, Romford, Hainault and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 0729. The cause of the fire is under investigation."
