Three people hospitalised in M8 crash which caused traffic chaos

Three people have been hospitalised in a single-vehicle crash on the M8.

The incident, in which one man, the driver and single occupant of the car, has been taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital as a precaution, occurred at J6A (Chapelhall) at around 9.35am

Following the crash, the major motorway's eastbound stretch was blocked off.

Emergency vehicles raced to the scene and enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the crash.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 9.35am on Saturday, 12 October 2024, police were called to a single-vehicle road crash eastbound on the M8, Junction 6a at Chapelhall. One man, the driver and single occupant of the car, has been taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital as a precaution.

"There was a full closure of the road eastbound, but it has just re-opened (12pm).

"Enquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing."

Traffic Scotland wrote on X: "The M8 is currently closed eastbound due to a road traffic collision. Emergency services are at the scene.

"Road users are advised to use an alternative route and expect some delays in their journey."
