Three rare British coins to check for in your wallet now worth more than £150,000
An avid coin collector is calling on the British public to rifle through their loose change, as there could be a small fortune hiding among their everyday coppers. According to the expert known as the Coin Collecting Wizard on TikTok, three particular coins could cumulatively net you a staggering £153,500 if sold to the right collector.
However, they must be found with specific features and from certain years. Diving into the details in a recent video he said: "This coin right here: £1,000, this coin: £2,500 and this old penny: £150,000."
He went on to describe the first treasure. The first coin referenced, and worth up to £1,000, was a two pence piece from 1983. But it features an unusual word.

This version says “new pence” across the top instead of “two pence”. The expert said: “The 1983 ‘new pence’ two pence coin from the United Kingdom is considered rare due to a specific transition in the design of the coin.
“In 1983 the Royal Mint in the UK began the process of changing the inscription on the two pence coin from ‘new pence’ to ‘two pence. If you find this rare coin you are looking at £1,000.”
Turning his attention to the second costly piece, he speaks of a 2011 50p coin commemorating the London Olympics, which showcases an image of a swimmer but it's the distinctive water lines obstructing the face on the coin that make it exceptionally valuable, potentially fetching up to £2,500. He states: "If you find an aquatic 50p error coin with lines over the face, it could be worth a small fortune."
He explained that a tiny batch of the initial design went into circulation but was swiftly altered to depict the face above the water level. Lastly, he advised viewers to keep an eye out for a highly valuable 1933 penny coin, worth approximately £150,000 to collectors.
With only six or seven of these coins believed to have been minted due to low demand that year, he added: "The rarity of the 1933 UK penny makes it highly sought after by collectors and its scarcity contributed significantly to its market value. If you happen to have a 1933 UK penny in your possession, then you are 100 percent rich. Do you have any of these rare coins? ".
