Three seriously hurt after car crashes into house and catches fire

Three people have been seriously injured after their car hit a house and caught fire.

The blue Vauxhall Zafira crashed into the house on the A857 on the Isle of Lewis at around 1.30am on Saturday.

The car caught fire, which spread to part of the house.

The driver and two passengers in the car - men aged 22, 32 and 36 - were taken to Western Isles Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the car has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences, police said.

A 61-year-old who had been in the house was able to escape with police help. She was not injured.

Sergeant Donald Sinclair appealed for anyone who saw the crash or the car being driven on the A857 before 1.30am to contact police.

He added: "I'm particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage which could help with our enquiries."
