Three women seriously hurt in four-car horror crash that shut A1079 for hours

Three women suffered serious injuries in a four-car horror smash that saw a main road closed for hours yesterday (Sunday, June 23).

North Yorkshire Police have released more details on the smash which saw the A1079 shut from 1.25pm until the early hours of this morning. They have also thanked several members of the public who raced to help the victims of the crash.

Four vehicles were involved in the crash near Grimston Bar roundabout, just east of the layby before Kexby. The three injured women were in the same white Citroen C3. The other cars involved were a grey Vauxhall Astra, a red Vauxhall Astra and a white Renault Clio.

In a statement, a force spokesperson appealed for witnesses and thanked those who stopped to help at the traumatic scene. They said: "We are appealing for anyone with information who has not yet come forward, and we would also like to thank several members of the public who stopped to help."
