After a period of relative silence following X-Men: Apocalypse, things are hotting up for 20th Century Fox's Marvel movieverse, with three films announced for 2018.

News has been leaking out about Deadpool 2's release date, as well as Dark Phoenix as the next core X-Men movie. They will both be coming in 2018 alongside spin-off team film New Mutants.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Boone's New Mutants will arrive first on April 13, 2018. The film is based on the comic about a young class of X-Men, including Cannonball, Karma, Danielle Moonstar, Sunspot, Wolfsbane and Magik.

Next will be Deadpool 2 on June 1, 2018, the sequel to Ryan Reynolds's 2016 mega hit, with new director David Leitch (John Wick) taking the reins.

Lastly, X-Men: Dark Phoenix will arrive on November 2 next year. The film will follow on from 2015's Apocalypse, presumably exploring the new powers displayed by Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) at the end of that film. Historically, the entity called the Phoenix means bad news for mutants, Earth in general, and any nearby planets inhabited by cute, helpless alien civilisations.

Chances are, any or all of those movies could arrive up to a week earlier than those dates in the UK.

With Disney's MCU and Warner Bros DCEU slates announced into 2020, Fox is just starting to play the catch-up game.

New Mutants is believed to be in pre-production now, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix will begin shooting later in the year.
