Thriller At Twickenham: Wales Victory Reaction

Wales' stunning victory over England in the Rugby World Cup is being heralded as one of the greatest ever wins for the nation, with thousands of fans and famous names posting their reactions on Twitter.

England led for most of the match - but the injury-hit Welsh underdogs fought back valiantly and came back from a 10-point deficit to beat the hosts 28-25 in the blockbuster battle.

England is now on shaky ground to make it through to the next stage of their own home-based World Cup and have to beat Australia in six days' time.

After Wales triumphed in adversity, actor Michael Sheen tweeted: "If you're Welsh and live near Twickenham get your boots on!"

He later added: "What unbelievable character! Mighty. Costly. Unforgettable. So proud!"

Comedian and actor Rob Brydon wrote: "So proud of the Welsh boys. What a victory. Just remarkable. Congratulations to Warren and his team."

Singer Katherine Jenkins, who is pregnant with her first child, tweeted: "'I'm not sure all this excitement is good for someone in my condition!"

Journalist and broadcaster Piers Morgan wrote: "WOW! What a try... brilliant by Wales."

US actor Samuel L Jackson tweeted: "Tough but epic game @ChrisRobshaw. Still all to play for against Oz. Hope Wales can get backline together for Fiji!"

Gareth Bale, who plays for Wales' national football team, posted a photo of himself pointing to a TV score board with the words: "What a game!! Come on #Wales."

Former Wales rugby back-row star Martyn Williams tweeted: "Simply unbelievable....greatest Welsh victory I've witnessed....!!!!"

England's 2003 Rugby World Cup winning hero Jonny Wilkinson gave credit to Dan Biggar who landed a late penalty for Wales.

He tweeted: "Respect + congrats to Wales for a great win. Thought Dan Biggar was phenomenal. Having played against him, I know he deserves all of it."

World Rugby chief executive Brett Gosper added: "Fabulous game of rugby!! Congratulations Wales. A courageous and historic win."

Thousands of fans have also spoken about the nail-biting Pool A game.

Ian Leather, who lives in Twickenham, nervously watched the final minutes on a big screen at Richmond's Old Deer park.

He said: "It was way too tense. I couldn't watch the last five minutes - I stood behind the pillar. We were losing for most of it and then we smashed it at the end. I'll sleep well tonight."

England fan Matteo Lechler, 16, of Chiswick, said: "I'm feeling quite gutted. I think it was a bit of a poor performance from England, the last 10 minutes especially."

Husband and wife Joanne and Alan Robinson from Coventry were supporting different sides.

They said: "It's been absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere here has been buzzing ... truly tremendous."

"We've got our friends here, who are English, so obviously he's been a bit outnumbered," Mrs Robinson said of her Welsh husband.

There was also a strong royal rivalry for the match as Duke and Duchess of Cambridge supported Wales while Prince Harry was backing England from the stands at Twickenham.

William and Kate proudly sported the Welsh colours while Harry wore an England rugby shirt with the message "Carry Them Home" at the back.

William is the vice patron of the Welsh Rugby Union while Harry holds a similar role with the Rugby Football Union.
