'Thriving' pub with 'lots of potential' in new hands as investment planned

The White Lion pub in Sawley, Derbyshire, has been taken over by the independent pub company Punch Pubs & Co. Experienced operators Ami Sanobar and Darren Paul will be running the pub, in Tamworth Road, just outside Long Eaton, which will form a part of Punch’s leased and tenanted estate.

Andrew Cannons, Punch Pubs & Co head of estate development and acquisitions, said: "We are delighted to welcome The White Lion pub into the Punch family. This is a fantastic community pub with an excellent reputation across the town, and we are looking forward to working alongside the existing staff and our new publican to ensure The White Lion continues to thrive for many years to come.”

Assistant manager Alistair will be taking over the day-to-day running of the pub as he steps up to become The White Lion’s manager, alongside the rest of the team who together will be working with operations manager Christian Gregory to ensure the transition goes as smoothly as possible.

Christian said: “The White Lion is already an excellent pub that sits within the heart of the community. I’m excited to embark on this journey with multiple operators Ami and Darren, who are looking forward to getting to know The White Lion family. Alistair and the team have already been incredibly welcoming, for which we are grateful. There’s a lot of potential in this thriving town pub, so I’m eager to see what the future holds here.”

Following the acquisition of The White Lion, Punch Pubs have a planned investment to take place in the coming months, with further details to be shared with the community later this year.
