A thug has been jailed after he attacked a man who was carrying a young child. Police said the victim was stabbed as he tried to run away from 32-year-old Joel Hislop.

Hislop launched the 'appalling' attack as the victim walked towards an address in Hadley, Telford. He was stabbed multiple times in the incident on December 11, 2019, but survived his injuries.

Hislop was later arrested in Coventry and, on October 22 this year, was convicted of assault causing grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon, West Mercia Police said. He was jailed for 11 years at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

Detective Inspector Paul Dury, of Telford Reactive CID, said: “We are pleased to get this lengthy prison sentence for Hislop, whose appalling actions in front of a child could have resulted in much more severe consequences for the victim.”

DI Dury added: “I hope that this result demonstrates that positive action will be taken against perpetrators seeking to cause harm in our communities.”
