Two thugs have been jailed after they attacked a pregnant woman with acid and dragged a vulnerable pensioner through her home during a vicious two-day crime spree.

Johnny Berry, 27, and Jason Smith, 28, broke into 10 properties, a mixture of homes and businesses, in May last year.

The pair began their crime spree in Bushey, Hertfordshire, where they also stole a car.

Only a day later, the pair burgled a home in Epsom where they sprayed a pregnant woman in the face with a corrosive substance. She escaped serious injury and has now made a full recovery.

Later on, the pair broke into the home of an 84-year-old woman with dementia in Chessington, Surrey.

They dragged the woman around her home before stealing watches and £300. Police say she is no longer to live independently in the aftermath of the incident.

Smith and Barry then attacked an 80-year-old woman as she returned home in the dark.

Berry was arrested within hours when police pulled his car over. Smith initially ran away, but was arrested in Stanmore last September after a chase on foot by a patrol officer.

Berry, from Edgware, was caged for seven years and two months after pleading guilty to 15 offences.

Smith, of no fixed address, was placed behind bars for eight years after being found guilty of 14 offences.

Detective Constable Leo Farnon said: ‘These men committed terrifying crimes, with no regard of how their actions would go on to distress the victims that night and continue to have an affect nearly a year later.

‘I want to thank the victims and their family for showing bravery, supporting the investigation and attending court. I hope this conviction goes someway to providing closure to the victims and their families.’
