Thugs leave grandfather with horrific injuries after hammer attack in case of mistaken identity
A disabled grandfather was left with horrific injuries after he was attacked with hammers in a case of mistaken identity.
Philip Jones has been left scared to return home after he was attacked by three masked men outside his flat on Saturday (July 13).
The 63-year-old was getting into his car to go shopping with partner Eileen O’Rourke when the trio knocked on his window, apparently thinking he was someone else.
Despite trying to tell them he wasn’t who they were looking for, the men opened the car door and attacked him with hammers.
Philip Jones, who has two children and seven grandchildren, only managed to escape by reversing his car, driving to hospital for treatment.
Philip, from Flintshire in Wales, was left needing stitches and with bruises.
He said he had tried to show the men ID to prove he wasn’t who they thought he was, but they insisted he was the person they were looking for.

He said: “I haven't upset anyone. The only think I can think of is some sort of mistaken identity.
“I haven't been able to return to my flat, I'm too frightened in case they turn up again. If they've done it once, who's to say they won't do it again.”
He said he is struggling to get into his flat because he is now using crutches, and has been left “living in fear” after the attack.
“I thought it was a wind up, I had no idea who they were looking for,” he said.
“I just don't want to go back, I'm frightened for my life and my partner is terrified to go back.
“I didn't want to get hit on my head, if I was hit there, that would be it for me.”
A spokesman for North Wales Police confirmed they are investigating the attack.
