8-hour thunderstorm warning issued for London with lightning strikes and train delays likely
Eight hours of thunderstorms will be hitting London on Friday, September 20. A yellow thunderstorm warning is in place for much of south and west England and south Walesfrom 12pm to 8pm.
The yellow warning area covers much of West London, which could see sudden and heavy downpours.

A separate yellow thunderstorm was issued covering much of the same area, although it appears to cover only the western outskirts of London - meaning most of London will avoid the thunderstorms this weekend. Saturday's warning is in place from 1am until 11.59pm.
Regarding Friday's yellow warning, The Met Office states: "While many places will remain dry, thunderstorms and heavy showers could cause some disruption on Friday in a few places." Those in affected area are told to expect 'some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes'.
Driving conditions may be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus, while delays to train services are possible. This summer has seen varied temperatures in the capital, with lots of people feeling disappointed by the relatively wet and cool weather. This week has seen some rise in temperatures, with London reaching highs of 26C today (September 19).
Friday (September 20) will have a cloudier start, before becoming brighter in the afternoon, although there is a risk of showers. Temperatures are expected to reach 23C.
The start of the weekend will see temperatures rise again, reaching 25C on Saturday (September 21). On Sunday (September 22), temperatures will drop slightly to 22C.
