Tiger Woods plans to leave flag in and take advantage of golf's new rules for 2019

Tiger Woods is planning to take advantage of golf’s new rules and leave the flag in on certain putts, the former world No1 has revealed.

The USGA and the R&A introduced a raft of new rules for 2019 from allowing players to leave the flag in when putting, knee-high drops and no penalties for double hits.

While many players have said they intend to play the game as they always have done, others are weighing up the benefits.

"Some of the putts where the hole is kind of visible as it comes up over a rise ... it would be nice to have a reference point so I'll probably leave it in for those kinds of putts," 14-time major champion Woods told reporters.

Further to just having a reference point, the 80-time PGA Tour winner said leaving the flag in could also be beneficial on downhill putts, or even at The Masters in April.

"It just felt like I could hit it more aggressively, which I did and I started running it eight to nine feet by [the hole]," he said.

"It might be more advantageous when we get on faster greens with a little more slope, i.e. Augusta.

"It will give you more security on a three to four footer down the hill. You can just take a cut at it."
