Taking a plane ride for vacations, youre usually greeted with warm smiles and professional demeanour from the cabin crew as soon as you board. Their roles seem to revolve around ensuring passenger comfort, distributing food and beverages, and adhering to safety protocols, but in essence, they do far more.

Surprisingly, they size passengers up as soon as they step aboard. A sensation swept over the internet after TikTok user @MrsMiva, who is a flight attendant herself, revealed an industry secret.

In her viral video, she enlightened viewers on the true motive behind the cheerful welcome offered by the crew when passengers step onto the plane.

Presenting a clip of herself, she unveiled: "Did you know that your flight attendant greets you not only out of politeness, but also to check whether you are too drunk or sick to fly? ".

This revelation managed to garner more than a million likes, leaving users astounded as many were oblivious about this discrete evaluation process, reports Birmingham Live.

A user, taken aback by the surprise, queried: "Wait, is there a reason why they always ask me where I sit when I go onboard", another added: "To see if you're 1. Safe to fly (not intoxicated) and to see if you could help in an emergency."

A third person chimed in: "And looking for suspicious behaviour." While a fourth added: "We are also picking out good candidates in the event of an emergency."

Several individuals shared their personal experiences to support this theory. One person revealed: "I was denied an international flight from England to America because they thought I'd die en route from being so sick." While another commented: "True, and it's the toughest part of the day. Without being paid! ".

However, not everyone was convinced by this theory, with some choosing to make light of the situation. One individual joked that they believed cabin crew were friendly towards them because they're so "cute and cosy".

One person retorted: "No they greet me because they like me." Another quipped: "No they say hi because I'm super cool and awesome - that's why." Meanwhile a third jested: "No - it's because they think I'm super pretty."

Most of the time, your flight attendant will welcome you aboard the plane with a warm greeting. Typically, they'll say something along the lines of "welcome aboard" or "good morning/afternoon/evening", accompanied by a bright smile.

Regardless of the reason behind their friendliness, it's always appreciated. It helps to put us at ease and relax before take-off.
