Everyone dreams of hitting the jackpot, even those who don't play the lottery. Just think about the exotic holidays, designer accessories, luxury cars, and dream homes you could afford if you struck it rich.

However, there are certain numbers that you might want to avoid if you're serious about winning, as they've historically been chosen less frequently. TikTok user @makeitshinemoney has shared her top tips for increasing your chances of winning big, including the types of numbers you should be picking.

She suggests a change in strategy, advising: "Avoid numbers that are related to dates like your birthday and anniversary."

"These numbers fall between 1 and 31, so even though the probability of the number being selected is the same if you play numbers above 31, it may increase the chance of you not having to share the prize with other players."

Research conducted by BoyleSports also revealed that if you're hoping for a windfall, you should steer clear of the following numbers:

  • 30

  • 6

  • 21

  • 48

  • 43

  • 18

These have been the least frequently chosen lottery numbers since October 2015, reports the Mirror..

@makeitshinemoney also recommends playing "less popular" lottery games, despite the fact that the "prize amount is probably lower" but your odds of winning will be higher.

Her third tip was to "study the most popular drawn numbers", which according to BoyleSports' study are 37, 52, 58, 39, 42, and 27.

She then suggested that listeners "go and buy a lottery ticket" after hearing her advice. However, in the comments section, one person countered: "Probabilities are skewed towards a certain distribution. It is not a normal distribution. There are skews."

Meanwhile, another person advocated for "investing money" as a more prudent option rather than risking it on the lottery.
