Watch: Tim Allen slams 'Lightyear' after being replaced by Chris Evans
Opening up to Extra about the film, Allen suggested it didn’t have much of a connection to the original Buzz.
“I've stayed out of this," he said.
"We talked about this many years ago… but the brass that did the first four movies is not this. It's a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies."
“There's really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody," he said, referring to the cowboy toy who was voiced by Tom Hanks in the franchise.
Allen, 69, went on: “It would seem to be a big adventure story, and as I see, it's not a big adventure story. It's a wonderful story, it just doesn't seem to have any connection to the toy and it’s a little… I don’t know.
"It has no relationship to Buzz."
Evans, 41, has been full of praise for Allen’s portrayal of the toy astronaut.
Speaking on Good Morning America in June, he said: “Look, Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear. What he did in those movies is so iconic and so loved, and I’d be a fool not to incorporate some of his choices into this role.”
He went on: “The character in this movie is the human version that the toy is based off of, so it makes sense to have a little bit of overlap, luckily for me.
"What Tim Allen did was pretty untouchable.”
