Hull City head coach Tim Walter insists he and Acun Ilicali share the same ambitions for the Tigers, and that he is enjoying working under the owner.

Walter has endured a mixed start to life at the MKM Stadium, with three Championship wins, draws and defeats under their belt so far, and a 4-0 defeat to Norwich City putting a dampener on the international break.

However, the German is confident his side are heading in the right direction after back-to-back wins over Stoke City, QPR and Cardiff City. The Tigers beat Alanyaspor 2-0 in this week's mid-season friendly in Turkey, where Walter spoke about his relationship with Acun.

"It is very easy to work with President Acun, we have a good rapport," he told Anadolu in Turkey. "We are both very ambitious and we understand each other. Acun is someone who has a success story and it is great to work with him."

"We started the season as a new team, and my players are very ambitious. The team is getting better every week. This could be our primary goal. Then, we want to take firm steps and make it to the play-offs."

Walter admitted he learned much from his time at Bayern Munich's youth academy, where he worked under now Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. But while he acknowledges Pep is the world's No 1 right now, he says he has developed his own coaching style.

Pep Guardiola is the best coach in the world right now," he added. "Of course, I am not like Guardiola. I have a different style, and while I’ve learned a lot from him, I want to follow my own path. But I like Guardiola's style the most.
