'About time' say some readers Conwy Council plans to charge staff to park at new offices
North Wales readers have been sharing their thoughts on Conwy Council's consideration to impose parking charges on its staff at council buildings as a fundraising measure. The council is in the process of moving from its Bodlondeb HQ in Conwy to the Coed Pella building in Colwyn Bay.
In light of financial constraints, the council is contemplating relocating staff to Coed Pella and introducing parking fees for employees who currently park at no cost. These plans are part of Conwy's new Local Development Plan, which underscores the council's pledge to become a carbon-neutral authority in response to the climate crisis.
The proposal includes discouraging private vehicle use through initiatives such as a workplace charging levy or congestion charging. Several readers have voiced their opinions on this matter in our comments section.

One reader, Miw pointed out the possible futility of the move, saying: "They'll soon realise that it won't bring them any extra money as their staff are working from home." Dumdumboys welcomed the decision with: "About time."
WilliamSLyre adds: "Forced redeployment? Something wrong here. Are Councillors having to pay too?" Espritouvert replies: "I doubt it, they will be issued with an annual pass or claim the cost back via their expenses, whichever is dearer."
Steamnut says: "It is about time. We have to pay so why should they get away with it. What will happen next is a huge problem with street parking as the try to avoid paying."
Grumpy old git comments: "I don't mind the staff parking for free there I they ALL bothered to turn up for work instead of hiding away at home doing very little."
Mrrogerdodger writes: "I worked at a much larger council over ten years ago where staff had to pay a parking subscription - I don't see what the controversy is here?"
PedroD thinks: "Surely, if they follow the policy they’re foisting on us, they should set an example by walking, cycling, taking the bus or train to Colwyn?!"
Eeu884 writes: "They should also abolish their WFH policy."
Morpick says: "Presumably this is another effort to encourage working from home and yet a further reduction in the standard of service being provided."
So do you think it is right that the council charge their workers to park in their own car park? Let us know in the comments below or HERE.
