Timelapse Captures Geminid Meteor Shower Over Canberra Suburb
A photographer in Canberra, Australia, captured stunning footage showing the Geminid meteor shower flashing across the sky over a suburb of the capital in the early hours of December 14.
Timelapse footage captured by Ari Rex shows meteors streaking across the sky during a starry night at his home in the Canberra suburb of Casey.
Speaking to Storyful, Rex told Storyful the footage was taken from two cameras that captured “about 700 pictures” between 2 am and 5 am.
The Geminid meteor shower happens annually and usually peaks between December 13 and 14. According to NASA, the meteors appear to radiate from a point in the constellation of Gemini and are produced by the asteroid 3200 Phaethon. Credit: Ari Rex via Storyful
