Timelapse Captures Supermoon Rising Above Space Needle

Seattle residents were among those who got to enjoy an impressive view of the final supermoon of the year, also known as the Sturgeon Moon, on August 11.

Seattle-based photographer Tim Durkan captured this timelapse footage of the moon rising behind the city’s iconic Space Needle.

“I have been fascinated with taking photos of the moon for about a decade and had a fun time taking the shot last night,” Durkan told Storyful.

NASA said the moon would appear full from Wednesday morning through Saturday morning. Credit: Tim Durkan via Storyful
