He Fired As They Ran: How The Terror Unfolded

Police were first alerted to the multiple shooting at a US college at 10.33am - here is a timeline of events, pieced together from witness reports.

March 8, 2011: Suspect's brother is killed in a car accident in Virginia while on active duty in the US Army. One Goh attends the funeral in Centreville, Virginia.

Late 2011/Early 2012: Goh drops out or is expelled from Oikos University in Oakland, California, where he was a nursing student.

April 2, 2012: Goh returns to the college.

Around 10.30am: A woman is shot at the front desk of the college .

Around 10.30am: It is claimed Goh entered classrooms and started shooting. In one classroom he allegedly orders students to line up against the wall and opens fire when they start to run.

10.33am: Police receive an emergency call reporting a woman on the ground bleeding at the college.

Between 10.30am and 11.30am: Goh calls his father, who phones the authorities.

Between 10.30am and 11.30am: More calls are made to police in quick succession, reporting "chaos" and many injuries.

Around 10.40am: First officer arrives at the college and finds a victim suffering from a "life-threanening gunshot wound".

Between 10.30am and 11.30am: More officers arrive and form a perimeter around the school, believing the killer is inside. Potential victims remain trapped in the building by a locked door which officers are unable to open. Others are unable to flee because of their injuries.

Around 11.30am: A security guard at a Safeway supermarket about three miles from the university approaches a man who is acting suspiciously.

Around 11.30am: Goh apparently told the guard: "I've shot several people, I need to talk to police." The guard called the authorities.

Around 11.30am: Goh surrenders to the police.
