Timothée Chalamet has pledged to donate his salary from his recent Woody Allen film to the Time's Up campaign, among other charities.

The actor – who was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in Luca Guadagnino's film Call Me By Your Name – starred alongside Selena Gomez in Allen's forthcoming film, A Rainy Day in New York, due out later this year.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Chalamet said that the past year has changed the "way I see and feel about so many things".

"I am learning that a good role isn't the only criteria for accepting a job – that has become much clearer to me in the past few months, having witnessed the birth of a powerful movement intent on ending injustice, inequality and, above all, silence," he wrote.

The 22-year-old actor was recently asked about his involvement in Allen's latest film, given Dylan Farrow's allegation that Allen – her adopted father – sexually abused her when she was 7 years old.

The director has consistently denied the claims and was never found guilty of child sex abuse, but was denied visitation rights.

Chalamet avoided the question at the time, but clarified his standing on Instagram.

"I have been asked in a few recent interviews about my decision to work on a film with Woody Allen last summer. I'm not able to answer the question directly because of contractual obligations.

"But what I can say is this: I don't want to profit from my work on the film, and to that end, I am going to donate my entire salary to three charities: Time's Up, the LGBT Centre in New York, and Rainn [the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network]."

Rebecca Hall, who also acts with Chalamet in the film, said on Friday that she too would donate her salary to charity. Last week, Greta Gerwig expressed regret at having worked with the director.

"I can only speak for myself and what I've come to is this: If I had known then what I know now, I would not have acted in the film," she said.
