Reviews of Mean Girls: The Musical have been mostly positive, with critics praising the decision to focus on Janis Ian and Damian as the central characters and updating the high school narrative to fit in with today's social media obsessed culture.

She admitted that she gave a vague answer to a question about a return for the sitcom in order to get attention, but said if she does bring it back, she would never do it as a straight reboot.

Saturday Night Live airs on NBC in the US.
