The actress, whose on-screen daughter Bethany is currently being groomed by older boyfriend Nathan, has praised the controversial storyline, saying "it's good to highlight" the issue of child grooming.
She also revealed how as a mother herself, it's the worst-case scenario a parent can face – and hopes it will encourage young girls to be careful.
"When I was first told about [the storyline], I felt really queasy, because as a mum it's the worst-case scenario," she told the Express.
"But it's good to highlight it and encourage girls to be more vigilant."
While Sarah has raised concerns about Bethany's relationship with Nathan, she is still in the dark about his real age, but all that is set to change.
In scenes to air next week, viewers will see Nathan invited to dinner at the Platts', as Sarah's concerns lead her to tell Bethany about her own past with child grooming – but will it make her thinking twice about Nathan?
"Sarah hasn't met Nathan and knows very little about him, because Bethany is reluctant to reveal any information, so Sarah decides to tell Bethany about her own experiences when she was young and she started seeing somebody she met in an internet chat room," Tina added.
"She reveals to Bethany that when she was 16 she got friendly with a guy called Gary, who said he was 18. He seemed really nice, so she went to his house and it turned out he was a man in his 40s.
"He was very manipulative and said it was a little white lie, so she stupidly went inside. He ended up locking her in the bedroom. Luckily she managed to get out unharmed.
"She's never told Bethany about this before because she's embarrassed that she got herself into that situation. She feels stupid that she was so naïve and tells Bethany that's why she'd like to meet Nathan, to put her mind at rest. "
Coronation Street airs weekdays on ITV.
