The cause of Hollywood legend Bill Paxton's tragic death has been uncovered two weeks after his death.

The late Titanic star suffered a stroke after complications arose during his surgery for an aortic aneurysm and to correct a heart valve problem, according to a death certificate obtained by People.

Bill reportedly suffered these complications when going under the knife on February 14, and his condition rapidly deteriorated until he passed away at age 61 on February 25.

His family sadly confirmed that Bill had died a day later on Sunday, February 26 with a moving message to his fans: "It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery.

"A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill's passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable."

Later on that same Sunday, Jennifer Aniston delivered a tearful tribute to Paxton as part of the Academy Awards' salute to those Hollywood stars we lost in 2016.

The Texas-born actor had been working on the CBS adaptation of Training Day most recently, having finished work on the first season shortly before his tragic death.
