Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have reportedly called it quits

Singer Ariana Grande and comedian Pete Davidson have reportedly ended their relationship and called off their engagement, according to reports from TMZ and People. “Sources close to the former couple tell us AG and PD split this weekend, with both parties acknowledging that it simply was not the right time for their relationship to take off,” TMZ announced. “We’re told the two still have love for each other, but things are over romantically.”

The two captivated the internet with a whirlwind romance that began in May and led to a proposal just a few weeks later in June. Since then, Grande had been spotted sporting a 3-carat, $100,000 engagement ring from Davidson and dining with him at romantic restaurants across New York City. Fans considered Davidson, the son of a firefighter who died on 9/11, a great match for Grande, who has been enduring her own trauma in the wake of the Manchester bombing.

But things took a darker turn a few weeks ago when news broke that Grande’s longtime boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller, had died possibly of a drug overdose. Since then, Grande has been largely absent from social media, canceling scheduled performances and delaying her tour indefinitely. The report of her relationship ending comes on the heels of a canceled performance at a cancer benefit this weekend, where Trevor Noah performed in her place. Grande’s manager, Scooter Braun, reportedly told the audience that Grande needed time to “heal.”

Davidson appeared on Saturday night’s episode of Saturday Night Live, which featured former SNL star Seth Meyers. According to TMZ, the pair was last spotted together last week. Neither has confirmed the breakup on social media. In a statement to People, a source said the engagement was “too much too soon” and that Grande needs time to heal.
