With her proud mother Kris in prime position on the front row, it came as little surprise that celebrity model Kendall Jenner opened the Tod’s fashion show in Milan this morning.

Dressed in white Capri pants and a handkerchief top printed in a yellow, turquoise and pale pink design of an Amalfi-esque rocky coastal town, Kendall's look summed up the theme of the collection.

An installation of clips featuring iconic films set in Italy greeted show goers in the entrance hall before the catwalk presentation, and while the collection’s inspiration was pretty broad - a “tribute to the Italian taste and its wise nonchalance” - it struck a very specific atmosphere, akin to one of the movies shown in the installation, Anthony Minghella’s The Talented Mr Ripley.

To this end, the colour palette was evocative of late summer sunsets, azure seas and rolling Tuscan hills.

As one would expect from a leather house, the skin featured heavily and imaginatively throughout. Lightweight white perforated leather was fashioned into sporty dresses; shirts were oversized and left untucked at the back for a louche, laid back vibe.

Suede was dyed with an ombré effect in two-tone which emulated the mood of Italian landscapes. Many outfits were shown as sets, such as some grey suede trousers with a matching shirt, and numerous shiny leather pyjama style trouser suits.

Accessories are the bread and butter of the Italian house; accordingly, there was a huge selection of shoes on offer - all flat - including sandals with silk ribbon ankle ties, cowhide chunky sandals and skate shoes, and many takes on the classic Tod’s Gommino.

Cross body bags were worn doubled up, and continuing the practical theme, the Wave bag had been redesigned as a backpack.

Since the departure of Alessandra Facchinetti last year, the Tod’s ready to wear collections have been designed by an in house team of five, all of whom took a bow at the end of the show.
