Toddler Killed In Birmingham Car Collision

A two-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in Birmingham.

He was hit by a Nissan Almera in Aston at 6.50pm last night, as football fans headed to the nearby Villa Park stadium to see Aston Villa play Notts County.

The driver is assisting police with their inquiries.

According to the West Midlands Ambulance Service, the boy had suffered serious injuries and was in traumatic cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived.

A spokesman added: "Advanced life support was carried out by medics at the scene, and resuscitation attempts continued on route to hospital, which had been pre-alerted and was awaiting the child's arrival.

"Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medics at the scene and the hospital, nothing could be done to save the child and he was sadly confirmed dead a short time after arriving at the hospital."

The road was closed for two hours while the emergency services attended the scene.

Sergeant Steve Newbury described the boy's death as a "tragic incident", and asked witnesses to call 101 if they had not already spoken to the Collision Investigation Unit of West Midlands Police.
