Tokyo Murder Probe: Irish Student Strangled

Police are continuing to question two American men over the death of an Irish student in a Tokyo hotel.

Nicola Furlong died after she and friend went to see a concert by rapper Nicki Minaj in the Japanese capital on May 23.

The body of the 21-year-old university student from Curracloe, County Wexford, was discovered in the early hours the next morning in a hotel room.

It is believed the student had been sexually assaulted and strangled.

In a statement on Monday, her family said they were devastated by the loss of their beautiful daughter and sister.

"Nicola was a warm, generous, stunning person who always had time for her family and other people," they said.

"Nicola will always be at the centre of our lives. She stood for everything that is good in life."

She was in Japan as an exchange student from Dublin City University and was due to return to Ireland in July.

A 23-year-old dancer and a 19-year-old musician, from America, have been arrested in connection with her death, according to the Tokyo Shimbun newspaper.
