Day 11 highlights

Even without reigning world champion Dina Asher-Smith, expect fireworks in the women’s 200m final.

Asher-Smith has pulled out due to injury but Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce goes head-to-head with American Gabby Thomas, the fastest woman over 200m in the world this year.

After withdrawing from the individual all-around, vault, uneven bars and floor finals in order to protect her mental health, Simone Biles is back competing again.

The American superstar and six-time Olympic medallist will contest the women’s balance beam final in what could be one of most watched events of these Games.

Biles has been suffering from the twisties, a mental block that affects many of the skills she competes, but on the balance beam she normally attempts fewer twists than her other events and so may feel most comfortable in that event.

Britain will be hoping for a golden day in the velodrome when both Laura and Jason Kenny will be in action in the finals of the women's team pursuit and the men's team sprint.

In the women’s team pursuit, Team GB qualified second fastest behind Germany who recorded a new world record and look like the team to beat.

There are big sailing medal opportunities for Team GB too. Giles Scott defends his Olympic title in the mean’s Finn class race, while John Gimson and Anna Burnet are the 2020 world champions in the mixed Nacra 17 class.

Jack Laugher won a silver medal in diving's 3m springboard event at Rio 2016 but has a chance to go one better this year.

The first boxing medals are up for grabs and welterweight Pat McCormack, the 2019 world silver medallist, will hope to reach the final in his division.

Showjumping begins with three Britons in action: Ben Maher, Scott Brash and Holly Smith.

Keely Hodgkinson, Jemma Reekie and Alexandra Bell race in the women’s 800m final, while the wide-open men's 400m hurdles final should be exciting.

In women’s hockey, Team GB face the Netherlands in the semi-finals after their dramatic shootout win over Spain in the quarter-finals.

Elsewhere, sport climbing makes its Olympic debut with qualification for the men's combined event. There are three disciplines - speed climbing, bouldering and lead climbing - and the winner will be the athlete who performs best across all three.

TV channel: BBC will be broadcasting the best of the action live for free on terrestrial TV, with coverage running from 12:00am.

Eurosport also have the rights to the Games in the UK, with live coverage beginning at 1.50am.
