Olympic champion Tom Daley cut a relaxed figure as he was spotted doing some Sunday knitting while watching the Tokyo women's diving final.

Daley, 27, was in the stands to watch the women's 3 metre springboard final as he worked on a new woolly pink number in his now favourite hobby outside of the pool.

On Sunday, he watched a 3m women's final containing no British divers as China finished with gold and silver.

The Briton is next in action on Friday when he begins his bid for a first individual Olympic title in the men's 10m platform.

After claiming a first Olympic title when he and partner Matty Lee won 10 metre platform gold last week, Daley proved he is a man of many talents by knitting a pouch to keep his gold medal safe.

He knitted a special pouch for the Tokyo gold after taking up knitting and crocheting to deal with the rigours of lockdown last year.

"The one thing that has kept me sane throughout this whole process is my love for knitting, crocheting and all things stitching," he said.

With a Union flag and the Japanese flag on either side, he took to his Made With Love By Tom Daley Instagram account to share the news.

He said: "It all tucks in nicely with a little pouch for me to carry around my little medal to stop it getting scratched."

Daley set up the Instagram page to showcase his colourful knitting creations and now has 100,000 followers.

In his individual tilt on Friday, he will be aiming to upgrade from being a double world champion in the 10m platform.

Aged 15, he became the first British diver to win gold at the world championships during a nervless display 12 years ago.

The Briton triumphed in the 10m platform at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
