Yahoo News Tom Brady responds to David Beckham as he teases Lionel Messi to Birmingham City
Tom Brady has joked that he is bringing footballing great Lionel Messi 'back to Birmingham' with him after he watched Inter Miami reach the MLS play-offs on Sunday. Miami, the club owned by Beckham which was founded in 2018, signed Messi after he left Paris Saint Germain last year.
The Florida team are top of the Eastern Conference and can't be caught by eighth placed Toronto with still eight matches left of the regular season. They beat Cincinnati, incidentally second in the league, 2-0 on Sunday thanks to two goals from Luis Suarez in the opening six minutes of the game.
Messi is currently injured, having suffered ankle ligament damage in the Copa America final which his native Argentina won in mid-July. He hasn't played for Miami since the beginning of June but, although he won't be returning to action for a little while yet, he was in attendance to watch his teammates do the business - and was joined by Beckham and NFL legend Brady.

"THE GREATEST," Beckham captioned the photo, with a couple of goat emojis. "Doesn't get any better @leomessi @tombrady to watch us go into the playoffs."
Brady, now retired, has links with Birmingham City of course; he became a minority shareholder in the club following the takeover of Knighthead last summer, and he has brought plenty of expertise and investment to the elite sport sphere.
Upon being announced last August, Brady became chairman of the new advisory board and has worked alongside the sports science department to advise on health, nutrition, wellness, and recovery systems and programs.
He cheekily responded to Beckham's post by adding: "I'm bringing @leomessi back to Birmingham with me. Sorry, @davidbeckham."
